Sharing ideas among school librarians

Alright, girls (and guys!)
What are you planning to read this summer?

I'm going to be teaching a nonfiction class for UIUC, so I'm going to be reading a lot of nonfiction for work. A few "fun" titles on my list:

White Darkness by Geraldine McCaughrean
Mistik Lake by Martha Brooks
The Luxe by Anna Godberson
Slam by Nick Hornby
The Dead and the Gone by Susan Beth Pfeiffer (released in June)
Suite Scarlett by Maureen Johnson
The Fortunes of Indigo Skye by Deb Caletti
And, of course, Stephenie Meyer's Breaking Dawn, released August 2.

I'm attaching a list of "Best YA Books Published Since Last Summer" as compiled by the YALSA-BK list serve- these are middle/high school novels. I'm going to be working my way through as many of these as possible!

I'm planning to do a lot of catching up this summer, especially if there's no summer classes offered! My fiction reading list includes:
Widow of the South- Robert Hicks,
Geek Love- Katherine Dunn,
Songs without Words- Ann Packer,
& Miss Julia Speaks her Mind-Ann B. Ross.
My non-fiction list includes:
The Glass Castle- Jeanette Walls,
Under God-Toby Mac & Michael Tait,
Suite Francaise-Irene Nemirovsky,
Amazing Grace: The Lives of Children and the Conscience of a Nation- Jonathan Kozol, &
Amercian Gospel: God, the Founding Fathers and the Making of a Nation- Jon Meacham
If any of you have read some of these, I'd love to know your thoughts!

Brenda-
I've got those same two Sarah Dessen books in my classroom and my high school girls just love them! I haven't read them yet, myself but they came highly recommended by one of my avid readers.
If I can get through the 75+ research papers I've just collected in the next 7 days without hurting anyone- I may just be able to get to my list!
Talk to you soon!

My girls love SD, too - and so do I. I've read all her books except her newest, which just came out a couple of weeks ago. I've got a few extra library dollars to spend due to some funds transfers, so I'm headed to B&N tomorrow to get some new releases. SD's new one is at the top of the list, followed by Deb Caletti's and Maureen Johnson's (see my list).
